Have you ever noticed that life’s lessons often come to you from those you are closest too? Sometimes they are so obvious that they are hard to see.
The other day I noticed that my dog Buddy was leaving his rawhide bones in the middle of the living room floor. They were everywhere and especially in the path to the chair that I meditate in. I kept tripping over them, moving them out of the way and he would move them back.
I knew that I needed to pay attention to the message.
What is it that you are doing so routinely and instinctually that you are missing the big pattern? What patterns do you have that are so deeply ingrained that you can’t see new information when it is presented to you?
In my case I was letting things get in the way of taking care of myself. I was letting those little dog bones distract me from my meditation time. As soon as I recognized the lesson, Buddy stopped leaving his bones in my path.
So how do you easily stop tripping over life’s lessons?
1) Take time to meditate. This sacred time alone with yourself and your divine wisdom will open new thought processes and allow you to see everything clearer.
2) Set your intention for the day. Take 5 minutes at the beginning of each day and clearly state aloud or in writing what you intend for the day. It can be as simple as “I intend to have an easy and joyful day!” or you can state specific outcomes for events that you know are planned that day.
3) Start a journal. Write down the ways that you distract yourself. Over time you may see patterns that no longer serve you or routines that you do just because you have always done them.
