In the United States we celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday. Thanksgiving is a day we gather to be thankful and grateful for a successful harvest.
What seeds that you planted did you harvest this Thanksgiving? What seeds turned into weeds that need to be pulled out of your life? How are they choking the beauty out of your life?
I harvested the fruits of gratitude, optimism, friendship and silver linings. Doesn’t that feel better than negativity, pessimism, loneliness and the dark side?
If every day you plant a seed of being grateful, then every day you will have something magnificent to harvest. This can become a new and powerful way of life. You have the power to turn your weeds into beautiful fruit!
So how do you start planting gratefulness into your daily life?
1) Take five minutes every morning for yourself to set your energy for the day. Visualize it as positive, enriching, effortless and community building. You will be amazed at how many beautiful moments will be given to you that you can be grateful for. This is planting the seeds of gratitude and positive energy.
2) At the end of the day do the ABCs of gratitude as you lie in your bed and start to relax before falling asleep. For example:
A is acceptance because you were honored for who you are.
B is beautiful because that is what you see when you look at yourself in the mirror.
C is complete because you easily finished all of your jobs.
You may only get to C or D before falling asleep. You may wish to start with the next letter after the one you ended on the night before. As you add this step to your daily practice of gratitude, not only will it help you fall asleep easier, you will recognize many things that you had not noticed to be grateful for. It is establishing the pattern of ending the day with grateful energy that nourishes the seeds you have planted.
3) Honor yourself for who you are, who you have been and who you will be. Know that all these pieces of you make up the entire picture of your life. Being able to see the gift in your journey and find the common patterns is a powerful healing journey that opens up a new clear path to be grateful for.
